Which letters are not allowed

Seventeen Arabic letters are permitted: أ ب ح د ر س ص ط ع ق ك ل م ن هـ و ى. Everything outside that set — ج, ز, ت, ث and the rest — never appears on a Saudi plate. On the Latin line there is no M, no C and no Q: the letter mistaken for M is م, and its code is Z.

The General Directorate of Traffic assigns each permitted letter one fixed Latin code, chosen so the shapes stay distinct at a distance. That is why some pairs look wrong at first glance: م is Z, ح is J, ص is X and ع is E.

A plate carries one to three letters and one to four digits. Fewer digits means a rarer plate, and the letter combination moves the price as much as the number does.

This page draws a picture. KSAplate does not issue registrations — a distinctive number is bought from its owner and moved through Absher, or won at an official auction.

Questions about Saudi plate letters and sizes

What are the Saudi plate letters in English?

Seventeen Arabic letters are permitted, each with one fixed Latin code: أ = A, ب = B, ح = J, د = D, ر = R, س = S, ص = X, ط = T, ع = E, ق = G, ك = K, ل = L, م = Z, ن = N, هـ = H, و = U, ى = V. The Latin line is not a spelling of the Arabic one.

Is there a ج on Saudi plates?

No. ج is not one of the seventeen permitted letters. The permitted set is أ ب ح د ر س ص ط ع ق ك ل م ن هـ و ى — nothing outside it appears on a Saudi plate.

Is there an M on Saudi plates?

No. The Latin line never carries M, C or Q. The letter people mistake for M is م, and its Latin code is Z.

What size is a Saudi licence plate?

Two sizes are in use: the long plate at 520 × 110 mm and the square plate at 305 × 153 mm. You can switch between them above and see each one rendered.

How do I make a Saudi plate picture?

Tap the letters, type the number, choose the plate type and emblem, then download the picture. It is free and needs no account.

Which colour belongs to which plate type here?

Switch to the square plate above and the five types appear: private, transport, taxi, temporary and diplomatic. Each one draws its own colour strip on the preview.
